Asia Pacific Tax Notes - What Lies Ahead? Looking into the Crystal Ball

Issue 20, May 2007

This issue begins with a very topical lead article on strategic simplification and sourcing in Asia (pdf file, 219KB) written by Nicole Fung, Thorsten Reelitz and Paul J Zanker of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Singapore.  The article examines how multinational companies can transform their business models in Asia's growth market in order to focus on their real value creating activities and outsource non-critical support functions so as to benefit from what is more than merely cost savings and operational efficiencies.  The article highlights "tax efficiency" as an imperative rather than a consideration in this restructuring exercise.

We also have the usual round up of tax developments in the region.  These mainly focus on recent budgetary developments as well as measures and incentives intended to encourage investment and stimulate economic activities in the region.  We would like to remind readers to check with their local PwC contacts on the progress in giving statutory effect to these budgetary proposals.
