Issue 6, Feb 2007 A bulletin for financial investors in Asia Pacific
Welcome again to the Asia Financial Buyer, our publication for private equity ("PE"), venture capital and other financial investors active or interested in Asia Pacific. 2006 has seen some of the largest announced deals (and aborted ones) in private equity history. In this issue we look specifically at the investment activity in India, which is growing at a prolific rate, and at the reasons for this surge in PE interest in the sub-continent. We also turn our attention to Australia, which has seen twelve straight years of economic growth and some headline-hitting deals in recent months. The implementation of IFRS has had a significant impact on PE and we look in some detail at the accounting implications and how they are impacting on the way deals are being structured. We also turn our attention to Korea and the changes to the tax climate for foreign investors in that country. Lastly, we look at the continuing intensity for deals. PE money is finding ways to win in competitive bids against corporate buyers - sometimes working with, rather than against, them.
