Credit crunch hits Asia Pacific 2007 ended innocuously enough. There was no let-up in deal activities. Mega deals and buyouts continued to close; and while everyone complained about tightening credit, it continued to be available. The atmosphere was surreal, as if we in Asia Pacific were perched on a mountain overlooking the billowing smoke of the looming but faraway fires of burning credit. And then the fire caught on.... First, the stock markets around the world plunged in January amid growing fears of a US recession, fuelled by the sub-prime crisis.
