Rainier Lam is a partner based in Hong Kong. He has been specializing in insolvency matters since the early 1990s. Rainier has a B.A. (Hons) in Business Studies and a LLB (Hons). He is an associate member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (England & Wales) and a fellow member of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants. From 1995 to 1996, he served as a member of two Working Groups of the Insolvency Practitioners Committee set up to study and comment on the winding up provisions and proposed law reform on corporate rescue. He is currently a member of the Management Committee of the Insolvency Interest Group. Major assignments include:
- C. A. Pacific Securities Limited/C.A. Pacific Finance Limited - Rainer is a Liquidator of this much publicised liquidation of a security brokerage with over 6,000 active clients, where he is involved, inter alia, in all client-related matters, including dealing with clients' claims.
- Eda Group - A listed group of companies engaged mainly in property development. The main holding companies within the Group were placed into compulsory liquidation in 1983. Partners of PricewaterhouseCoopers (then Coopers & Lybrand) and two other major accounting firms were appointed joint and several liquidators. Total realisation of Eda Investments Limited, the main company wound up by PricewaterhouseCoopers, is in excess of HK$200 million. Rainier is involved in the administration of the liquidation, realisation of assets, adjudicating claims and bringing the liquidations of group companies to a close.
- Rainier was in-charge of the voluntary of a fabric manufacturer with annual turnover of over HK$400 million which needed to be closed down due to shareholders' disputes, Rainer oversaw the entire liquidation process, continuing operation at the commencement to fulfill outstanding orders and eventually closing the Company.
- Hotel Monitoring Assignment - This engagement was engaged by the mortgagee of the hotel to monitor the hotel operations, where the work of Rainier and his team involved in reviewing and overseeing the operations, cash flow and control aspects of the hotel.
