PwC named a Leader in IDC MarketScape: Worldwide ESG/Sustainability Strategy Consulting Services

Shanghai, 1 March 2023 – PwC has been named as a leader in IDC MarketScape’s: Worldwide ESG/Sustainability Strategy Consulting Services 2023 Vendor Assessment (February 2023, IDC #US49044922).

This evaluation assesses the capabilities and business strategies of many business consulting firms' ESG strategy-related offerings. It is based on a comprehensive framework and a set of parameters expected to be most conducive to success in providing ESG strategy services over both the short and long term. A significant component of this evaluation is the inclusion of business consulting buyers' perceptions of the key characteristics and the capabilities of these consulting providers, both directly from the vendors' clients and through a survey.

The author of this IDC MarketScape report, Dan Versace, says, “Worldwide, providers are generally perceived as being able to excel at integrating their services into organizational sustainability structures, understanding the unique needs of a client's business, and providing necessary subject matter experts. They are also considered very capable of meeting project timelines and providing for an efficient transfer of knowledge and best practices.”

Amy Cai, PwC China ESG Managing Partner says: “ We are honoured to receive this assessment and thank the IDC MarketScape for recognising us as a Leader in the industry. We lead by example in practicing sustainability and are the first to make a global commitment to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. Based on PwC's purpose to ‘build trust in society and solve important problems', we create win-win relationships to help our clients fully address the toughest challenges of today and actively seize the opportunities of tomorrow.”

The assessment report highlights that:

  • PwC approaches ESG transformation projects through a three-pronged approach, managing risk and opportunities, building trust, and creating value through better decision making.
  • PwC's strengths lie in its net-zero strategy offerings. With a proven track record of successful engagements with organizations across industry and maturity levels, PwC's offerings in the net-zero space, including its managed services approach, are a key differentiator.
  • PwC should be considered when a robust net-zero strategy is the end goal. With its subject matter expertise in business consulting and risk management, and its suite of managed service offerings, PwC would be able to serve clients with low-level to mid-level ESG maturity.

Qing Ni, PwC China ESG Markets Leader says: “As a pioneer in sustainable development, PwC has been actively promoting ESG development, strengthening cooperation with green and low-carbon industries, cultivating stronger ecosystems and strategic alliances, and building better tools. As a leader and collaborator in the transition to a net-zero economy, our Net Zero Economy Index tracks the progress of G20 countries in decarbonizing their economies. In addition, we help companies transition to green and low-carbon business models through ESG reporting tools, greenhouse gas emission monitoring and management systems, and responsible investment analysis tools.”

PwC has long been committed to ESG and climate change-related issues, providing enterprises with sustainable development strategies, ESG reporting and assurance, climate change, responsible investment, green finance and other services to help enterprises improve ESG performance. In the future, PwC will continue to strengthen cooperation with green and low-carbon industries, cultivate stronger ecosystems and strategic alliances, and work with industry experts to jointly help achieve the “Dual Carbon” targets.
