The PwC China IPO Watch 2020 is an annual publication which surveys stock market listings in China including Hong Kong, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Taiwan, and provides a comparison with the world's major markets.
In 2020, the overall IPO activity across the region grew with a 55% increase in funds raised and a 39% increase in IPO volumes. Shanghai produced the highest number of IPOs in the region whereas Hong Kong raised the most IPO proceeds illustrating the depth of the China markets.
Secondary listings are making Hong Kong an even more important capital-raising venue with a growing ecosystem for innovation and the new economy and this trend is expected to continue into 2021. Despite the global COVID-19 pandemic, the rollout of COVID-19 vaccines should underpin a global economic recovery together with potentially more constructive trade relations between the US and China should create a supportive environment for IPOs.
