Asia Pacific Deals Leader & China and Asia Pacific Private Equity and Sovereign Investment Funds Leader, PwC China
David has been a partner with PwC since 1997, having transferred from Newcastle in the UK to Hong Kong in 1994. He has specialised in M&A advisory and financial due diligence, as well as corporate restructuring and debt restructuring advisory since his arrival in the territory.
David currently leads PwC’s M&A Deals business for Asia Pacific region. He is also PwC’s Private Equity and Sovereign Investment Funds leader for Asia Pacific region; Private Equity leader for China and Hong Kong; and Deals Strategy and Ops (“DS&O”) leader for China and Hong Kong.
David has experience advising private equity sponsors, corporates as well as government and financial institutions on their investments in China and Hong Kong, and elsewhere in the region, in relation to acquisitions, restructuring and exits. In recent years, David has focused on M&A advisory and financial due diligence work, assisting private equity, overseas and domestic companies looking to acquire and structure businesses and assets in China, Hong Kong and other Asian markets. He has advised on some of the largest and most complex transactions in China and regionally, and has broad experience across many industry sectors. David leads relationships and transactions work on behalf of PwC for a number of the largest global private equity accounts active in China.
David is also an expert in corporate and debt restructuring, having acted on several of the largest debt restructurings in China and Hong Kong. He was lead advisor to 170 bank creditors on the ground-breaking debt restructuring of the Guangdong Provincial Government’s investment company GDE. David presented at the inaugural Global PwC Restructuring Program at Harvard Business School. He has also spoken at various major insolvency conferences and has lectured on corporate restructuring methodologies and strategies globally.
In the M&A and private equity field, he is frequently quoted in the international and Hong Kong press, including the Financial Times, the Wall Street Journal, South China Morning Post and Asia Venture Capital Journal. He has been interviewed many times by TV and radio media including Bloomberg, CNBC and Reuters.
